Release notes

What changed on this site, week by week.

2026-W42

New

  • An RSS feed for Thoughts, linked from the Thoughts page, so you can follow new articles in a feed reader.
  • Search engines can now read who Kevin is from the main page, and the date and author of each article.
  • A new Investing page tells how I went from index funds to picking my own stocks: why I bought and sold each one, and my results against the S&P 500, in percentages only. It is in the navigation bar.

Changed

  • A sitemap helps search engines find every page.
  • Links between pages open directly, with no redirect in between.
Under the hood

New

  • /rss.xml (@astrojs/rss) from src/data/thoughts.ts, which the Thoughts page also lists.
  • /sitemap-index.xml (@astrojs/sitemap) without the pages in EXCLUDED_PATHS, and a Sitemap: line in public/robots.txt.
  • JSON-LD structured data (src/lib/jsonLd): a schema.org Person on / and an Article on each thought, written by Page/Html.
  • e2e/links.test.ts crawls the built site and fails on any internal link that does not answer 200 with no redirect.
  • src/pages/investing.astro, built at build time from tools/investments' track-record.json, with its math in src/lib/trackRecord/ and unit tests; /track-record/ redirects to it.

Changed

  • Internal links end with a slash (trailingSlash: "always"), so Workers static assets no longer answer them with a 307.

2026-W41

New

  • A Release notes page lists what changed on the site, week by week. It is linked from the footer.
  • The main page now offers web applications, CI/CD and cloud infrastructure, with a way to get in touch.
  • The footer links the privacy policy and shows which version of the site you see and when it was built.
  • Gallery is now called Art, and its pictures load faster.
  • Every page also has a plain-text copy for AI assistants, and llms.txt lists them.
  • A new article, There Is No Laptop Anymore.
  • Navigation tabs are always visible, with a fade at the edge on narrow phones.

Changed

  • Text uses the Inter font, which the site serves itself. Your browser no longer contacts Google Fonts.
  • Text in the footer is easier to read, and many small accessibility fixes make the site easier to use with a keyboard or a screen reader.
  • The site no longer installs a background worker in your browser, and removes the one older versions installed.
  • Pages no longer move sideways when you go between a short page and a long one.
  • The Projects page no longer links to test versions of the apps, or to Fluid Attacks' code, which is no longer public. Makes is marked as archived.
Under the hood

New

  • src/data/releaseNotes.ts and src/pages/release-notes.astro, with a unit test for the order and shape of the entries.
  • llms.txt, llms-full.txt and a Markdown copy of every page, written after the build by the llms integration.
  • Axe accessibility tests and site tests in e2e/, run by test-e2e:local against the built site.
  • Footer with build commit and time (__BUILD_COMMIT_HASH__, __BUILD_TIMESTAMP__).

Changed

  • Inter comes from @fontsource/inter instead of Poppins from Google Fonts.
  • Art images come from the cdn R2 bucket under www/art/; none are in git. /gallery redirects to /art.
  • The service worker moved to @apps/pwa and is self-destroying; hashed /_astro/* files are cached for a year.
  • Format, lint and typecheck also cover e2e/ and the Vitest configs.
  • html has scrollbar-gutter: stable, so pages with and without a scrollbar have the same content width.

2026-W40

New

  • The site now lives with the other apps, and keeps working as before.
  • Two new paintings in the gallery: Tree and Giraffe.

Changed

  • The gallery shows my favourite pieces first.
Under the hood

New

  • kamadorueda.github.io was imported with its history into apps/www as a workspace app and Cloudflare Worker.

Changed

  • Gallery order follows my favourites.
  • The dependencies follow the shared catalog.
